Demand Capture

Demand capture is the work of turning intent that already exists (someone actively asking a question or hunting for a solution) into a qualified lead. It's the flip side of demand generation, which sets out to create interest that wasn't there before.

Picture buyers on a line that runs from "doesn't yet know they have a problem" to "credit card half out." Generation works the near end, manufacturing awareness and interest. Capture works the far end, catching people who already want a fix and converting them before the moment passes or a competitor gets there first. In practice that's your search presence, pricing pages, comparison content, and the CTAs that meet a raised hand.

The two aren't rivals so much as a relay. Generation fills the top of the line, capture converts the bottom, and most teams pour money into the first while quietly spilling the intent the second was meant to catch.

AI search raises the stakes because the traffic arrives warm. Someone asked a pointed question ("how much does X cost", "best tool for Y") and an answer engine sent them over as a cited source. That's a buyer near the bottom of the funnel. The way it goes wrong is dropping that person on a generic homepage with nothing to do with what they asked, so the intent quietly evaporates. Winning the citation, and the citation share behind it, only gets them to the door. What happens next is where AI visibility either becomes pipeline or drains away.

Capturing it well is mostly about matching the moment. Send an AI citation about pricing to the pricing page, not the front door. Offer a next step that fits where the buyer actually is, a demo or a trial rather than a one-size funnel. Keep your prompt coverage high on the bottom-of-funnel questions, so you're even present for the ones nearest a decision. Then strip out friction, because the warmer the visitor, the more a clumsy form or a slow page costs you. Someone who came in on a citation for "how much does X cost" should land on the price and an obvious next move, not a homepage that makes them start the hunt over. The citation earned you the intent. Whether you keep it comes down to the page.
